We analyze the relationship between environmental and interdisciplinary design in the context of research in Mexico. Having identified a trend towards generating interdisciplinary knowledge in Mexico to deal with the ongoing environmental crisis, we discuss the concept of environmental design and interdisciplinary research, particularly from the viewpoint of complex systems. We offer a number of considerations about the challenges facing interdisciplinary research in environmental design, in the context of Mexican institutions.
