Blanca de la Nogal Fernández, A. Hernández Martín, F. Uriarte Estefanía, Magdalena Güemes García, María Ángeles Machín Morón

  • Lichen planus is a cutaneous disease of unknown etiology, characterized by pruriginous injuries located in any area of the body's surface, including the oral mucosa one. In the mouth, the most frequent location is the jugal mucosa. Erosive mucous injuries are specially resistant to the treatment, tending to chronify and notably reducing the patient's quality of life. Tacrolimus, an immunosuppressant macrolide, has proven to be efficient in the treatment of oral lichen planus. Within the period comprised from November, 2002 to February, 2004, 13 patients affected by oral LP and treated with 0.1% topical tacrolimus in oral adhesive base have been studied. In most cases, the injuries substantially improve despite that, after the treatment suspension, they do often reappear
