Reverse engineering is a methodology that looking for useful and reliable information about an object, technology or system, in order to know, duplicate and where appropriate enhance the characteristics of the objects. Although it´s many applications in teaching and industry, Reverse Engineering is not taught formally in universities, in part because it is confused with piracy and the fact that there are few methods available for teaching. This paper presents the use of Reverse Engineering in teaching and industrial applications in some universities of Sonora. We describe a formal definition and a method associated with the concept of Reverse Engineering. The applications described and the experiences are oriented to duplicate parts and components, and hydrogen fuel cells reverse design.
