El poeta Manuel González Sosa (1921-2011) fue también crítico literario y ensayista. En este artículo se lleva a cabo un repaso de su trabajo como crítico, y se examinan, al mismo tiempo, sus traducciones poéticas (António Rodrigues Lobo, J. M. Blanco White, Baudelaire, Miguel Torga). Se valoran algunas de sus aportaciones, como los hallazgos en torno al «Soneto al Teide» de Cristóbal del Hoyo, o su rechazo del término «indigenismo» aplicado a la Escuela Luján Pérez, así como sus estudios sobre Domingo Rivero, Tomás Morales, etc. Manuel González Sosa deja, en suma, un notable legado como crítico e intérprete de la realidad cultural de las Islas

Manuel González Sosa (1921-2011) was a poet, essayist and literary critic. This paper is an overview of his work as a critic, and focuses, at the same time, his poetic translations (António Rodrigues Lobo, J. M. Blanco White, Baudelaire, Miguel Torga). Some of their contributions are valued, as the investigations about the Cristóbal del Hoyo’s «Soneto al Teide», or its rejection of the term «indigenism» applied to the Escuela Luján Pérez, as well as their studies on Domingo Rivero, Tomás Morales, etc. In short, Manuel González Sosa leaves a remarkable legacy as a critic and expert of the Canary Islands’ cultural history.
