This paper analyzes the technical efficiency of the electricity industry in Mexico for ten types of power generation in the period 2000-2009. We study the allocation of inputs for the production of electricity and are divided according to the type of generation in relation to the input used to estimate a stochastic frontier model of production and determine the relevance for each type of generation.
To make the estimate a panel data structure with 300 samples, representing three explanatory variables for the ten types of electricity generation. The results indicate that the electricity production plants, representing different production frontiers determined by production capacity and production inputs using means that are heterogeneous components, so an energy policy for the electricity industry must take into account this heterogeneity.
