  • Resumen
    • Inventing and selling historical furniture: the taste and the carrer of Alexis Delahante, painter, expert and curio dealer.

Important figure in the history of the fine art and decorative art market in the beginning of the 19th century, Alexis Delahante's (1767-1837) rich career as art dealer, advisor and expert serving European aristocracy deserves to be studied in all its various aspects. His implication in the service of major collections for the evolution of taste sheds light on the influence of curio dealers, since he was one of the main representatives in the Paris of the Restoration after having played the same role in Regency London. This influence extended beyond the shaping of the taste of their contemporaries, amateurs of art objects, to also include the rought outline of the theorization of concepts that naturally find a place in today's eye for the valorization and appreciation of the importance of works of art inherited from the past, in the past, in the forefront of which are the principles of provenance and historical association.
