The main goal of this paper is to illustrate, in a methodological and empirical way, the necessity of adjusting or correcting the aggregation biases ¿which are due to the so-called output (or market) effect and price effect- in the decomposition equation of the conventional Divisia index for the measurement of productivity where there exists no competitive equilibrium in the good and factor markets in the long run.
The empirical results show that the estimated aggregation biases condition significantly the evolution of the productivity in the case of the Spanish mining industry. In this sector, the absence of correction of such biases implies a substantial underestimation of its growth.
