    En este trabajo se estudian tres retratos de Carlos IV que existen en diversas instituciones de Tenerife, insistiendo sobre todo en su alta significación histórica, artística e institucional. Para ello resulta fundamental un análisis del concepto de retrato regio que podemos asignar a obras ejecutadas en el Archipiélago antes de 1808, así como su relación con ejemplares previos y posteriores para valorar el alcance de los presupuestos plásticos e iconográficos que manifiestan. De igual modo se tratarán cuestiones olvidadas hasta ahora como el valor de dichas obras en relación con el ambiente para el que fueron ideadas, las dudas que suscita el proceso creativo y, sobre todo, la valía del grabado como fuente o modelo de inspiración entre los artistas locales.

    In this paper we study three portraits of Carlos IV that exist in various institutions in Tenerife, with particular emphasis on its historical, artistic and institutional significance. To that end it is essential an analysis of the concept of regional portrait that we assign to works executed in the islands before 1808, and its link to previous and subsequent examples to gauge the level of their plastics and iconographic contributions. Also we study the value of such works in relation to the place for which they were conceived, the questions raised by the creative process and the value of the engraving as a source of inspiration or model with local artists.
