Resumen de Los términos religiosos en Lucrecio: ¿es el poeta un ateo, un laico, un sin-dios (un agnóstico, un descreído...)?

  Lucrecio es un personaje peculiar en la cultura romana- y no sólo en la poética-. En principio, su adscripción al Epicureismo le aleja del perfil general del intelectualismo de la época y a las tendencias más generalizadas. Intentamos, a través del estudio de los términos religiosos que utiliza, averiguar qué hay de cierto en esa oposición a la situación de su época y a los valores generales romanos. Si su religio es "superstición" -como se suele afirmar- ¿qué es para el lo sacrum, lo sanctum, el numen y demás elementos de la religiosidad de su época? ¿Realmente fue un descreído o simplemente un diletante que aceptó una filosofía crítica con la sociedad de su época? Pretendemos acercarnos a su concepción religiosa "inconsciente", no tanto a partir de "lo que dice", sino a partir de lo que "no quiere decir" -o no es consciente de decir- cuando trata otros temas. A través del estudio de un "descreído" trataremos de acercarnos a la ideología de la época y hacer un estudio de los aspectos estructurales de las creencias religiosas (y, por tanto, políticas) tardorrepublicanas.

  Lucrecio's profile is an unusual one in Roman Culture- not only in poetics. For a start, his support of Epicureism sets him apart from most of the intellectuals/scholars of his time and makes him stand against the most common trends. We intend to find out to what extent he disagrees with the situation of his age and with Roman values by studying the religious terms that he uses. If his religio is "superstition" as it is commonly agreed, what are sacrum, sanctum, numen and all the other religious elements of his time for him? Was he really an unbeliever or rather just a dilettante who accepted a philosophy which was critical of the society of those days? We have tried to approach his "unconscious" religious conception, taking as a starting point rather than what he actually says, what he "will not say" or else what he says unintentionally when he is dealing with other subjects. By studying an unbeliever we aim at approaching the ideas of his time and understanding the structural aspects of the late Republican religious (and therefore, political) beliefs.
