El presente estudio recoge testimonios que han quedado en diversos archivos coloniales de una terrible y humillante práctica realizada en los africanos esclavizados y traídos compulsivamente al Nuevo Mundo: la de marcarlos con hierros candentes para certificar su introducción legal y la propiedad por parte de los esclavistas.

This article investigates the brand marks in several colonials' notary records, testimony of the practice of carimbar, marking of bodies -on his arms and chest- of each African slave who arrive to Spanish America, and certificate therefore the legal introduction and the property of the slavers.
