  • The article reports that several firms including smartphone maker Apple Inc. and Internet-search firm Google Inc. have submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission their first reports concerning use of conflict minerals, or tungsten, gold, titanium, or tin derived from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and surrounding areas whose sale finances a civil war in the DRC. Apple said 80% of its DRC metals are conflict-free.
