  • The large volume attained by the biomedical literature makes difficult for hospital pharmacists to select the most appropriate sources to obtain information of sufficient evidence, which leads to the inevitable first step in any study or intervention. VTE prophylaxis in medical patients with LMWH is a subject of growing interest that required an intervention in our ambit, for which an analogous bibliographic research in Medline, Embase, Cochrane and IME was undertaken. There resulted 281 articles distributed among 160 journals from very diverse thematic fields, standing out the great level of dispersion by subject matter and the low index of source overlapping, which shows that it is indispensable to jointly resort to several of them (Medline, Embase and Cochrane) in order to avoid informational glitches
