Aim of the paper is to discuss the different legal instruments adopted to promote legislative reorganization. Having analised the XIX Century codification model, the paper goes through the theory and practice of legislative reorganization in Italy, adopting a comparative perspective. It takes into consideration consolidated acts, sectoral codifications, new codifications, the «taglia-leggi» mechanism and the «laws of principles». The Author finally puts forward a theory of legislative reorganization and of codification for the constitutional state.
