  • Resumen
    • Objective: To evaluate unspecific intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) use in new patients to assess proposals for improvement. Method: Observational retrospective study during 2003. Data sources: clinical records (CR), pharmacotherapeutic files and prescription forms. Results: Out of 49 new patients, 37 authorized indications were recorded, 5 unauthorized and 7 unrecognized. Only one compassionate use was processed. Most frequent pathologies: ITP (40.8%), Guillain-Barre syndrome (12.2%) and post-BMT (10.2%). The department that prescribed the most was Hematology (55%), followed by Neurology and Pediatrics. The exact weight to calculate the dosage was recoverable only in half of the CR. Eight patients had an adverse reaction to IVIG. Conclusions: The degree of adherence to the authorized indications by the AEM is high, but the processing of compassionate uses is scarce. Proposals for improvement: a protocol revision, the diffusion of an internal guidebook, an update on the IVIG request form and a greater supervision from the Pharmacy Department
