Objective: To analyze the requests made with the Drug Information Center (DIC), to identify their causes and users and to evaluate the degree of response. Method: Retrospective study that analyzes the medication information requests made with the DIC from a 1300-bed general hospital for a year. Results: 240 medication information requests, 89.2% from the own hospital. These requests were mainly made by physicians (45.8%) and nursing personnel (30.0%). Those of the physicians presented a great thematic variety and those of the nursing personnel were fundamentally focused on stability/compatibility. The most present therapeutic groups were the J and the L. 92.5% of the responses have been conclusive. In 81.7% of the medication information requests, general information was provided in relation to the medication and the remaining 18.3% were about the pharmacotherapy for specific patients. Conclusions: The activity that took place exceeds that of a local DIC and could be considered as a point of reference. The visible percentage of medication information requests related to pharmacotherapy of a specific patient indicates that the DIC constitutes an important support for the pharmaceutical care
