  • Objective: To quantify and analyse the impact of Electronic Alerts (EA) of the STOPP criteria included into an Assisted Electronic Prescription program (AEP) for minimizing Potentially Inappropriate Prescribing (PIP). Methods: A prospective before-and-after intervention study. A team comprised by a geriatrician and a pharmacist analysed all the STOPP/START criteria and selected 11 STOPP criteria for inclusion in the AEP program as eight EA. Patients over the age of 70 years involving at least one PIP according to the selected STOPP criteria were included. The number of PIP sand submitted EA were counted. Results: After implementing the EA, we obtained an absolute risk reduction in the emergence of PPI of 0.17% (0.09-0.25%), a relative risk reduction of 39.23% (20.32-58.14%), and a relative risk of 0.61% (0.48-0.77%). We observed a PIP decline above 15% with all the EA, reaching up to 79% in the case of first generation antihistamines. Conclusion: The implementation of EA of the STOPP criteria in an AEP program allows to identify and decrease PIP
