Una estrategia retorica que maneja Euripides al crear sus personajes es hacer que estos se presenten ante el publico como alguien digno de credibilidad y lo hace siguiendo en lineas generales la tecnica que establece Aristoteles en la Retorica cuando habla de como debe mostrarse un orador persuasivo. En el caso de Alcestis, el talante de los personajes se pone a prueba en contraste con su actitud ante la costumbre legal establecida, νόμος, cuestionandose si ella sola debe regular las relaciones humanas o si trascender lo legal es mas justo que limitarse a cumplir lo establecido por la ley. El dialogo inicial de Apolo y la Muerte y el enfrentamiento entre Feres y Admeto son las escenas en las que de forma mas clara se utiliza νόμος y la actitud ante la ley como criterio definitorio de la personalidad de los personajes.

A rhetorical strategy that Euripides manages to create characters is to get them to appear before the public as someone worthy of credibility, managing a technique that generally agrees with the principles set out in Aristotle's Rhetoric when he talks about how a speaker should be displayed persuasive. In the case of Alcestis, the mood of the characters is tested in contrast to their attitude to the rules, νόμος. He questions to what extent human relations must be only regulated by law or if on the contrary it is fairer to beyond what is legal. The initial dialogue of Apollo and Death and the confrontation between Feres and Admetus are scenes in which more clearly the contrast of views on the implications of νόμος is used as an instrument defining the personality of the characters.
