Este ensayo analiza la relación entre las metáforas especulares y la representación de lo femenino en tres textos medievales: la Vida de María Egipciaca , el Espill de Jaume Roig y la Lozana andaluza de Francisco Delicado. Partiendo de un cuestionamiento sobre la figura del speculum medieval y su uso como indicación de un saber científico, este ensayo se acerca a los modos en los que estos tres textos literarios presentan un discurso de un saber sobre el cuerpo femenino que utiliza estrategias diversas para autorizar el discurso literario como uno médico. Sin embargo, cada texto, aunque de maneras diferentes, establece otra relación de reflejos entre el discurso de autoridad y la condición del cuerpo femenino que abordan que cuestiona la validez de dicho discurso.

In this essay I analyze the relationship between mirror and reflective metaphors and the representation of women in three medieval literary texts: the Life of Saint Mary the Egyptian, the Espill of Jaume Roig, and the Lozana andaluza of Francisco Delicado. In these texts, the metaphors related to the notion of speculum are intended to indicate the use of a scientific discourse about the female body. This discourse is used to authorize a literary discourse that presents itself as having medical insight. However, each of these texts point to other ways in which the relationship between mirroring and reflections, a discourse of authority and literature, and the female body they attempt to illustrate put into question the validity of such discourse.
