Resumen La noticia de que una persona va a tener que estar encamada durante un largo periodo de tiempo sumado a la incertidumbre sobre si va a volver a andar genera una situación insostenible de indefensión y angustia.
En este relato biográfico se exponen los sentimientos y experiencias que tuvo una enfermera cuando, a sus 17 años, sufrió un importante accidente y quedó encamada por un largo periodo de tiempo. Realiza un recorrido por sus vivencias y emociones durante su ingreso hospitalario y posterior proceso de recuperación, explicadas desde el punto de vista de una profesional de la salud. Es por ello que, gracias a su testimonio, nos hace reflexionar sobre qué siente un paciente encamado y darnos cuenta de los aspectos fundamentales de los cuidados enfermeros que muchas veces descuidamos en nuestra práctica diaria.

Abstract (They looked weird at me. The story of a bedridden patient and how was her recovery process) The knowledge of that a person is going to be bedridden for a long period of time combined with the uncertainty whether the person will be able to walk again or not will cause an unsustainable situation of helplessness and anguish.
This biographical story exposes the feelings and the experiences of a nurse that at the age of 17 had a serious injury which made her bedridden for a long period of time. The story tells her experiences and feelings during her hospitalization and later recovery process explained from a health professional point of view. Thanks to her testimony we can reflect about the feelings of a bedridden patient and realize the fundamental aspects of nursing care that often is neglected in the daily work.
