As of 1989, Latin America witnessed a true revolution in the field of arbitration with the implementation of reforms in the legal framework of most of the significant countries of the region and the execution of investment protection treaties. However, within a few years of euphoria, the denunciation of the ICSID Convention by Bolivia, Ecuador and Venezuela, sounded as the prelude of the return of the old Latin American hostility towards arbitration. Yet, statistics show growth in the practice of other countries, such as Mexico, Brazil, Peru and Colombia. New legislative revisions took place, whilst other are currently in progress. Therefore, in spite of some setbacks, it seems that arbitration in Latin America is not going through a crisis.
