    El Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum fue planeado en 1847 para recoger el conjunto de las inscripciones latinas del Imperio Romano. Es bien sabido que la epigrafía es, junto con las fuentes literarias, el eco del mundo romano y que, conjuntamente, constituyen los datos objetivos que puede utilizar el historiador para la restitución de este pasado. Las inscripciones son un documento directo llegado desde la misma antigüedad en forma original y sin manipulación alguna. Son, por consiguiente, su verdadera voz.

    The Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum was planned in 1847 for the purpose of collecting the Roman Empire's Latin inscriptions. It is well known that epigraphy and literary sources are the echo of the Roman world and that, together, ther constitute the objective data that can be used by historians for retracing this past. Inscriptions are direct documents that have como from antiquity itself in their original form, without any manipulation. Therefore they are its true voice.
