  • Resumen
    • The various pathologies associated with chronic renal failure involve a greater amount of drug prescription. As a result we observe frequent drug interactions in these type of patients as well as other medication related problems. This article reviews the treatment of the 53 patients of the hemodialysis unit in order to study their pharmacotherapeutic profile and to determine which drug interactions are likely to occur most frequently. The most frequently prescribed drugs are antianaemic drugs (29%), phosphorus suppressers (15.6%), calcium salts and vitamin D (12.7%), vitamins (10.4%) and antihypertension drugs (11%). We found 65 possible drug interactions, most of them affecting absortion levels, given that 92.4% of the patients are taking some kind of antiacid drug. It has been estimated that 70% of patients at times do not comply with their treatment regime due to the great amount of set medication as well as to advanced age. The use of charts and timetable-maps as well as a greater degree of collaboration between pharmacists and nephrologists can help to foresee and prevent some of the medication related problems in patients undergoing hemodialysis
