Mónica Martínez Penella, M. T. Orviz Suárez, F. López Guerrero, S. Montesinos Ortí, E. Salinas Alemany

  • Interactions among drugs are frequent in hospitalized patients, being able to originate yatrogenic reactions, that is why we initiated an identification and notification about drug interactions program integrated into the computer system of unit dose dispensing. After several months of functioning, it was valued such program's degree of acceptance through a prospective study that lasted a month. In detecting an interaction, this one was communicated to the responsible physician by a printout elaborated for such purpose. During the three posterior days to the estudy, it took place a follow-up of the sent recommendations. There were sent 83 notifications corresponding to 18 types of interactions. Three drugs, digoxin, theophylline and acenocoumarol, represented 95% of the detected interactions. The degree of acceptance of the sent recommendations was 70%. The detection of interaction allows the pharmacist to participate on the patient's care by obtaining a safer drug use
