    La aparición y sucesiva expansión de los programas de Atención Primaria y/o Medicina de Familia en las Facultades de Medicina españolas es un hecho relativamente reciente, asociado a la reforma de la Atención Primaria en España, basada en los Centros de Salud. La Facultad de Medicina de la UAM ha sido una de las primeras en incorporar en su currículun actividades relacionadas con este tema. En el artículo se presenta en detalle el Programa de Atención Primaria en la Facultad de Medicina de la UAM. Existen tres tipos de actividades: A) Rotación durante un mes en un Centro de Salud adscritos a la Universidad y un Profesor asociado en cada uno de ellos, formalizado mediante el convenio INSALUD/UAM. B) Curso optativo en sexto. Se trata de un curso de 20 horas orientado a presentar las peculiaridades del trabajo del Médico General. Este Curso lo eligen una media de 50 estudiantes por año. C) Asignatura optativa de libre designación en tercer año. En el marco del nuevo Plan de Estudios se ha ofertado para los estudiantes de tercer año una Asignatura optativa de 20 h., que persigue que el estudiante tenga un contacto precoz con el paciente en su ambiente natural (la familia, el barrio, el medio laboral).

    The introduction and progressive development of Primary Health and/or Family Medicine programmes in Spanish Medicine Faculties is a relatively recent event associated to the Spanish Primary Health Reform based on Health Centres. The Faculty of Medicine of UAM has been one of the first ones that incorporated in its Curricula activities related to this matter. There three kind of activities: A) One month rotation in a Health Centre in the sixth year of training, compulsory for all the students. There are 15 Health Centres attached to the University and in associated Professor in each of them, formalized by means of the INSALUD/UAM agreement. B) Optative course in the sixth year of trainning. It is based on a 20 hours course orientated to show the peculiarities of the Family Physician´s job. This course is chosen by an average of 50 students per year. C) Optative subject of free choice in the third year of training. Within the framework of the new Study Plan an optative subject of 20 hours has bee offered to students in the third year. Its purpose is that the student has an early contact with the patient in his/her natural environment (family, neighbourhood, workplace).
