Aproximación a las claves de la más reciente investigación sobre la arenga militar

    En los últimos tres años la crítica ha vuelto a pre star una renovada atención a la arenga militar. El presente artículo pasa revista a los trabajos publicado s entre los años 2008 y 2010, poniendo de manifiesto la existencia de dos grandes líneas de investigación so bre este tema: una de índole académica, centrada en el estudio retórico de la arenga historiográfica, y otra eminentem ente divulgativa, que dirige su atención al papel de la exhortación militar en la historia. A través del análi sis crítico de cinco libros recientemente publicados (Yellin 2008, Miller 2008 y 2010, Inglis 2008 y Thompson 2009), se muestran tanto las nuevas aportaciones como los erro res interpretativos de esta nueva línea de estudio

    In the last three years the battle speech has receiv ed renewed critical attention. This article reviews works published between 2008 and 2010, and shows the existence of two main lines of research on the subje ct: The "academic" line, which focuses on the rhetorical stud y of the historiographical harangue, and the "informat ive" line, addressed to the general public, which directs its att ention to the role of the military speech throughout h istory.

    Through a critical analysis of five recently published books (Yellin 2008, Miller 2008 and 2010, Inglis 20 08, and Thompson 2009), this paper comments both on the new contributions as on the interpretative pitfalls of thi s new line of investigation
