  • Resumen
    • The great majority of studies dealing with genericity only consider the subject position and generic noun phrases (Ie N, un N, les N) as the standard case, there is a wide range of linguistic properties that can be accounted for on the basis of this four-terms classification.

regardless of other positions or other determiners. The aim of this article is to study the possibilities of a generic interpretation in the four cases corresponding to both oppositions subject versus object and plural definite (les N) versus plural partitive (des N). It will be shown that, as far as genericity is concerned, each case gives rise to a specific interpretation. Hence the claim that genericity must be split into different subclasses: strong genericity versus weak genericity, and individual genericity versus group genericity. Moreover, there is a wide range of linguistic properties that can be accounted for on the basis of this four-terms classification.
