Resumen Para el paciente la hospitalización supone ruptura y aislamiento de su ambiente familiar, pérdida en la capacidad de decisión y disminución de autonomía. En este relato observamos cómo se enfrenta un enfermero, puesto por una enfermad en el lugar del enfermo, al proceso de la hospitalización. Francisco con su enorme capacidad de observación nos cuenta la vivencia de su enfermedad. Primero fue ingresado en un hospital extraño para él, donde sintió el miedo y la deshumanización en el medio hospitalario. Después llega al hospital de su pueblo donde tiene muchos compañeros, sintiéndose protegido y mejor cuidado al recibir un trato más humano, así, desaparece el miedo. Obtiene tras esta experiencia un aprendizaje que le hace mejorar en su profesión y procura, desde entonces, hacer partícipe a sus enfermos en la información y las decisiones sobre su enfermedad.

Hospitalization, for the patient, involves the breaking and isolation of the family atmosphere; he loses the ability to make decisions and it reduces his personal authority. In the following story we see a nurse who is hospitalized in place of the patient. Francisco, with his enormous capacity for observation, told us as lived his illness. He was first admitted to a hospital strange to him. In this hospital he was afraid and dehumanised by the hospital environment. After he was admitted to another hospital in his own village, where he had many friends, he felt protected, better cared for and had more humane treatment that removed all his fear. After this experience he has a greater knowledge which makes it better for his career and since when he engages with his patients in respect of information and decisions concerning their illness.
