    EN EL MERCADO EUROPEO DE MOBILIARIO SE HA DETECTADO UNA CARENCIA MUY importante de muebles desarrollados específicamente para personas mayores con estilos de vida independientes. Este grupo de usuarios constituye una población cada vez mayor con necesidades que no se ven cubiertas por los productos existentes en la actualidad.

    Esta situación pretende ser solucionada mediante el proyecto COMFURT, en el cual participa el Instituto de Biomecánica de Valencia (IBV) junto con empresas y centros de I+D de diversos países europeos. El objetivo de esta iniciativa es la creación de un sistema de diseño y desarrollo de muebles en el que se tengan en cuenta las necesidades concretas de los usuarios, así como la pérdida de capacidades y habilidades asociada al envejecimiento.

    Los resultados de las primeras etapas del proyecto arrojan resultados interesantes con respecto a las características de los usuarios.

    The European furniture market suffers a lack of products designed specifically for senior citizens with independent lifestyles. This growing group of users gathers particular needs that are not fulfilled by the existing furniture.

    A solution to this scenario is to be reached through the COMFURT project, in which the Institute of Biomechanics of Valencia (IBV) is taking part together with manufacturers and RTD centres from different European countries. The aim of this enterprise is to create a system for the design and development of furniture in which the needs of the users, as well as the loss of abilities due to ageing, are taken into account.

    The first stages of the project have produced interesting results regarding the characteristics of the users.
