    Amélie Nothomb‘s Mercure presents a multitude of intertextual references mostly derived from mythical, religious and literary “ grand narratives ”. Beyond simple punctual references, this story harks back to several founding myths of femininity. This article studies the influence that the character of Eurydice exerts on the novelist's rewriting of these sources. The reprise of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice is made thanks to the systematic application of the process of splitting the structure of the narrative and the elaboration of the feminine characters. It will be a question of understanding how, in the style of a “ palimpseste ”, Amélie Nothomb rewrites the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice and how the splitting process allows the author to transform the mythical figure of Eurydice.

    Le roman Mercure d’Amélie Nothomb présente une multitude de références intertextuelles qui sont le plus souvent tirées des « grands récits » mythiques, religieux et littéraires. Au-delà de simples références ponctuelles, ce récit reprend plusieurs mythes fondateurs de la féminité. Le présent article s’intéresse à l’influence qu’exerce la figure d’Eurydice sur le travail de réécriture de la romancière. La reprise du récit mythique d’Orphée et Eurydice s’effectue grâce à l’application systématique du procédé du dédoublement en passant par la structure du récit et par l’élaboration des personnages féminins. Il s’agira donc de comprendre comment, à la manière d’un palimpseste, Amélie Nothomb réécrit le récit mythique d’Orphée et Eurydice et de quelle manière le dédoublement permet à l’auteure de transformer la figure mythique d’Eurydice.
