  • The article presents profiles of doctors, lawyers, researchers, activists, and entrepreneurs who were selected by the publication as leading global thinkers in 2013 for their influence in areas related to healing such as immunology, anti-poverty campaigns to improve medical access, and nonviolence initiatives. Persons profiled include epidemiologist Caroline Buckee for her application of metadata in disease prevention; Anand Grover, a United Nations (U.N.) special rapporteur on the right to health, for his public advocacy for access to medicine for the poor; and Mark Dybul, executive director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, for his fundraising efforts.
