  • The article presents an overview of civilizational changes that had occurred by 700 AD, a period that Princeton University historian Peter Brown named Late Antiquity, and discusses how Late Antiquity relates to the 21st century and Syria's revolution in 2011. The United States' role as an organizing power and Syria being the geographical core of Late Antiquity are noted. Topics include Muslim extremism, the European Union's debt crisis, and Saint Augustine's book "The City of God."
