Resumen de Una trampa automática para la captura de páridos

David Camps i Munuera, Juan Carlos Senar, José Luis Copete

  • Birds frequenting automatic traps can learn to steal food without activating the mechanism which closes the trap. Here we describe a trap, originally used for squirrels, in which this disadvantage is highly reduced. It is formed of a wire and wood tunnel, in which the bird pushes a pole while trying to get the bait. The trap is mainly suitable for tits (Parus spp.), efficiency being close to 100%. There is some seasonality in the use of the traps which varies between species. This stresses the need to assess biases associated with the trapping method before using it.
