  • The status of the population of Rollers nesting in nest-boxes was studied in Extremadura during the period 1986- 1994. There was a positive trend in the number of active pairs during the study period and, similarly, the occupation of nest-boxes increased during this period. When the availability of nest-boxes was stable on increase of 7.12 % in active pairs was detected. The habitat type was determinant for the number of breeding birds, dehesas being the habitat with the highest breeding numbers in three of four years studied.
