The Yellow-legged Gull Larus michahellis is basically a coastal breeder in its western European range. Between 1995 and 1999 a progressive increase was noted in its presence during the breeding season (April to June) in the provinces of Cuenca and Toledo (central Spain). In 1998 a first breeding atternpt was observed, and the species probably bred at two rnore localities. Finally in 1999 sorne breeding pairs were discovered in four different wetlands, and the breeding of five pairs was proved ut three of thern. In Buendia Reservoir (Cuenca Province) the species stayed all year round in 1999, being rnore nurnerous in July-August and with nonadult birds only in May-Septernber
