A partir de las descargas realizadas por la flota artesanal durante 1996 se analizan las pesquerías artesanales de la Comunidad Autónoma de Cantabria y el Principado de Asturias (norte de España). Se describen la flota, los aparejos más comunes y las capturas, así como la estacionalidad de las mismas. El objetivo de este trabajo es establecer los fundamentos para la creación de una base de datos de pesquerias artesanales del área geográfica estudiada.

The artisanal fisheries in the regions of Cantabria and Asturias (northern coast of Spain) are described, based on data from the artisanal fleet's 1996 catch. Information is included on the fleet itself, the most commonly used fishing gear, and the catches and their seasonal variation. The aim of this study is to serve as the groundwork for a database of the artisanal fisheries in the area studied.
