    • The article discusses the occupation of Hawai'i and the exploitation of its major indigenous communities. Topics covered include the prolonged U.S. occupation that started in 1898, the streams of thought that developed within the Hawaiian sovereignty movement, and the establishment of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA). Also mentioned is the mass resistance of 19th century Hawaiian citizens to U.S. annexation in 1998.
