  • The article discusses the violent and widespread protests in Khartoum in September 2013 in response to the lift in oil subsidies in Sudan. Topics covered include the shift in power away from the National Congress Party and current Sudanese leader Omar al-Bashir, Sudan's economic woes, and the lack of refineries in South Sudan. Also mentioned are the importance of oil revenues to Sudan and the refusal of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to lend to Sudan.
