  • The article discusses violation of auditor independence rules for which the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) assessed accounting firm KPMG $8.2 million. KPMG was penalized for having provided a variety of non-audit services to three audit clients. Although the SEC did not identify the clients, a published report said one of them was conglomerate General Electric.
