  • Resumen
    • The podocopid Ostracoda of East Falkland are studied on the basis of a number of litoral and inmediate sublittotal samples. A total of 33 species are recorded belonging to 27 genera. Only 7 species were recorded from East Falkland by Brady (1880). Two new species are described: Propontocypris parasimplex and Perissocytheridea murrellensis while a number of other species, currently left in open nomenclatures, will be described as new in subsequent papers from the coasts of Argentina and southern most Chile, where they are better represented. The East Falkland faunas are from samples of different salinities and substrates and this is clearly reflected in the various associations. As will be shown in the forthcoming papers of this series on the ostracods of the southwest Atlantic, the ostracods of the Falkland Islands show close affinities with those of the Beagle Channel, the Magellan Straits and the coast of southern Patagonia. Both marine and brackish water associations are present within the fauna.
