  • Resumen
    • Polish highlanders share many holiday customs in common with other Poles, such as the com- mon christmas eve dinner (Wigilia), during which the family shares the christmas wafer, or op?atek, the legend about farm animals hav- ing the ability to speak on that night. he also examines other christmas customs that are unique to the highlands, including the custom of washing in a bowl filled with precious coins after the wigilia supper, with its accompany- ing belief that participants would become as strong and durable as those coins.
