  • Resumen
    • The hospital pharmacy departments should implement strategies to control drug spending; one of these strategies is to review the availability of highly effective therapeutic alternatives against costly new treatments. The prescriptions should be assessed by several professionals in order to provide the patient with the most appropriate medication for his clinical condition. In many occasions, the hospital pharmacist may provide therapeutic alternatives that are equally or more effective at a much lower cost. These decisions should be based on proper clinical trials and scientific literature endorsing efficacy of the alternative treatments
