Resumen de Democrazia e liberalismo in Bobbio

Enrico Diciotti

  • :Bobbio on Democracy and Liberalism A considerable part of Norberto Bobbio's legal and political thought deals with the concept of democracy and the obstacles on its path. Bobbio examined the relationship between democracy and liberalism. This relationship was understood in terms of a theory valuing equality in basic liberties, such as freedom of speech and association. Since liberalism also praises the market, the relationship between democracy and liberalism can also be seen as a relationship between democracy and the market. Though no work of his expressly deals with this topic, Bobbio sometimes pointed out some important features of the tension between democracy and capitalism, being a clear consequence of the market. This essay focuses on the relationship between democracy and liberalism as well as Bobbio's conception of this relationship.
