In the light of recent historiographical landings, seems increaseingly clear that the phenomenon of religiuos tourism is a peculiar and important chapter within a double historiographical horizon, that could be brought back to the thematic area connected to Church and economy as well as to the tourism economy.
The research has focused on contemporary age, and more specifically on the Italian season which comes from the end of the nineteenth century until today, according to the following summary:
- from Christian pilgrimage to religious tourism in Italy, including religion, sociology, culture, economics;
- historiographical literature, sources, journalism;
- map of the phenomenon, places and compelling cases:
Caravaggio, Padova, Loreto, Assisi, Pompei, San Giovanni Rotondo, including integrated local development and tourism;
- overall interpretation and further tracks: the evolution of the phenomenon of Italian economy and society in the twentieth century, economic significance of the phenomenon, religious tourism in the articulated and differentiated framework of tourism economy in Italy;
- research perspectives between marginality and maturity historiographical
