Resumen de Termalismo y turismo en la España del siglo XIX

Mediante el presente artículo se pretende abordar la contribución del termalismo al nacimiento del turismo en la España del siglo XIX. Siendo verdad que existía una práctica termal anterior, lo cierto es que fue en el siglo XIX cuando el sector empezó a estar regulado y cuando se produjeron importantes avances en la privatización de las aguas, en el nacimiento de ciertas empresas explotadoras de los sitios termales o en los medios de transporte, al tiempo que poseemos los primeros datos sobre afluencia de bañistas a los establecimientos termales españoles. Todo ello, evidentemente, dentro de la lógica del paradigma higienista imperante y con las limitaciones características del desarrollo termal en España, carente de esas importantes "ciudades de aguas" existentes en otros países europeos.

This article aims to address the contribution of the spas at the birth of tourism in Spain in the 19th century. It is true that there was a previous thermal practice, it seems that it was in the 19th century when the sector be regulated and when there were major advances in the privatization of water, the birth of certain exploitative enterprises thermal sites or means of transport at the time that we have the first data on influx of bathers to Spanish spas.
This, of course, within the logic of the prevailing hygiene paradigm and characteristics of these important "water city" thermal in Spain, lacking development constraints exist in other European countries.
