El rápido y continuo crecimiento urbano a nivel global acarrea importantes retos, de los que cabe destacar la sostenibilidad económica, social y medioambiental. Semejante desafío exige, por parte de las administraciones, empresas y ciudadanos, una respuesta global y coordinada desde una perspectiva integral para alcanzar el paradigma de la ciudad inteligente. Las tres principales palancas para conseguir dicho objetivo son el urbanismo y la dotación infraestructuras, la regulación y la gestión de los servicios urbanos. Una combinación inteligente de dichos instrumentos permitirá a la ciudad del siglo XXI alcanzar sus mayores cotas de sostenibilidad y desarrollo.

The rapid and continuous growth of our cities on a global level brings serious challenges, particularly with respect to economic, social and environmental sustainability. These challenges require a global and coordinated response by local authorities, companies and citizens in order to achieve the paradigm of a smart city. The main forms of achieving this objective are through town planning, the provision of infrastructure and the regulation and management of urban services. An intelligent combination of all of these instruments will allow the 21st century city to reach it highest level of sustainability and development.
