  Los observatorios deben asumir los nuevos retos que plantean las ingentes masas de datos que provienen de una gran diversidad de fuentes para cumplir con su misión de generar, sistematizar y tratar toda aquella información relativa al ámbito cultural de un determinado territorio. Hablar de información es hablar de conocimiento, de buscar información útil, elaborada, que permita diagnosticar, informar y pronosticar comportamientos. Es decir, incorporar análisis e interpretación a la observación. Con tal finalidad, los observatorios deberían diseñar un sistema de información capaz de recopilar, analizar y difundir conocimiento a partir de indicadores que aglutinen la información en formatos estandarizados que posibiliten la comparabilidad territorial. En este trabajo también se proporcionan orientaciones sobre las fuentes estadísticas a las que deberían acudir los observatorios para acceder a los datos, ingrediente básico de la información, así como de las técnicas que podrían aplicarse para su análisis, sin olvidar un aspecto fundamental como es la difusión de la información obtenida mediante el adecuado soporte que favorezca su visualización

  Observatories should embrace the new challenges posed by the vast mass of data that emanates from a wide variety of sources, in order to fulfil their mission of generating, systematising and processing all information regarding the cultural context of a given territory. To talk about information is to talk about knowledge, and the acquisition of useful, well-prepared data which facilitate the identification, communication and prediction of behaviours. In other words, the incorporation of analysis and interpretation into the act of observation. To this end, observatories should design an information system capable of compiling, analysing and disseminating knowledge based on indicators which bring together data in standardised formats that facilitate territorial comparisons. This paper provides guidance on the statistical sources that observatories should use to obtain data - the basic ingredient of information - and on the techniques that could be applied for analysis; it also addresses the fundamental issue that is dissemination of the information obtained using an appropriate medium that facilitates visualisation
