    Pakistán vive desde hace años una crisis que cada vez se ahonda más. Su ubicación geoestratégica en una de las regiones más convulsas del planeta y su historia son factores determinantes para su política exterior y para el papel que ha desempeñado, desempeña y desempeñará en el conflicto de Afganistán. Es un actor clave y vital para la estabilización de su vecino de cara a la retirada de las tropas internacionales en 2014. El objetivo de este capítulo es analizar el contexto histórico que ha llevado a Pakistán a su situación actual, especialmente en sus relaciones con Afga-nistán, la India y Estados Unidos. El Ejército, un Estado dentro del Estado, ha dictado desde hace años la política exterior y de defensa y seguridad. Todo ello puede ayudar a desentrañar las razones que han conducido a Pakistán a adoptar políticas que la han llevado al borde del abismo.

    The crisis Pakistan undergoes since years deepens more and more. Its geostrategic situation in one of the most tumultuous regions of the planet and its history are decisive factors for its foreign policy and for the role it has played, it plays and will play. Pakistan is a key and a vital actor for the stabilization of its neighbor if we take in mind the withdrawal of the international troops in 2014. The aim of this chapter is to analyze the historical context that has brought Pakistan to its current situation, especially in its relations with Afghanistan, India and the United States. Nearly since the birth of the country, the powerful army has made the decisions on foreign policy, defense and security. The study of all these elements can help us to understand the reasons that have let Pakistan to undertake policies that had brought it on the brink.
