Objective. To compare the bond strength between human and bovine enamel when using self-etching primer. Methods. A total of 25 bovine incisors and 25 human molars, were stored in Thymol solution 0.2% (wt/vol) and divided into two groups (n = 25/gr). In both groups the enamel was self-etched for 5 seconds (Transbond Plus SEP) and attachments bite up were fabricated with a silicone template and composite resin. The samples were light cured for 10 seconds, stored (37 °C, 24 h), and debonded (0.5 mm/min). The results were statistically analyzed (Students t). The remaining adhesive (ARI) index was also analyzed. Results. The average value of group I 10.69 ± 5.46 MPa was significantly lower than group II 17.55 ± 6.67 MPa. Comparable scores of ARI were found between groups. Conclusions. Although it has been reported that the bond strength of bovine enamel is lower than that obtained with human enamel; the results of this research showed that the diversity on the morphological surface of human molar produce lower shear bond strength than the flat surface of bovine teeth when the enamel is self-etched.
