    We aimed to analyze how the social representations of itinerant traders from the beach of Ponta Negra / RN can be used as an element for tourism planning. For this purpose, we performed a descriptive study, using methods such as the literature search and Free Word Association, applied to 90 itinerant traders in Ponta Negra / RN. The central core of the representations presenter the knowledge of itinerant traders collectively shared by tourism. The plan represents the forward thinking and formulating plans to seek improvements. We conclude that understanding the needs of tinerant traders provides grants to developing strategies for tourism development, becoming an important theory to be used with individuals living reality and local needs, but are the margin of decision -making processes

    Objetivamos analisar de que maneira as representações sociais dos comerciantes ambulantes da praia de Ponta Negra/RN podem ser utilizadas como elemento para o planejamento turístico. Para tanto, realizou -se um estudo descritivo, utilizando a pesquisa bibliográfica e Associação Livre de Palavras, aplicados com 90 ambulantes em Ponta Negra/RN. O núcleo central das representações apresenta o conhecimento dos ambulantes pautado nos saberes coletivamente partilhados pelo turismo. Não obstante, o planejamento representa o pensamento no futuro e elaboração de planos que busquem melhorias. Então, entende -se que compreender as necessidades dos ambulantes fornece subsídios para elaboração de estratégias visando o desenvolvimento turístico, constituindo -se como importante teoria a ser utilizada com indivíduos que vivem a realidade e necessidades locais, mas encontram -se a margem dos processos decisórios.
