Resumen de Empresarios y poder político en el espacio santafesino (1860-1890): Carlos Casado y su estrategia de acumulación

Marta Bonaudo, Elida Sonzogni

  • Within the framework embodied by the emergent nationstate, fractions of the bourgeoisie from Santa Fe consolidate their strength as they seek to guarantee and increase their margins of accumulation. In analyzing the different strategies these groups used, the authors highlight both the cycles established to attract capital and the modes of involvement with political power. The paper sheds light on these processes by focusing on a paradigmatic member of this class: Carlos Casado de Alisal, whose trajectory is visibly marked by the kind of investment practices that typify a society in which the logic of mercantile capital still rules, as well as by a tendency to appeal to private and political bonds in order to reduce the entrepreneurial risks or to give a solution to any impasse caused by the market. This dynamics is produced in a context where the state and the market are changing their patterns of operation, so that they modify their bent for particularizing and embrace a certain universalization, thereby forcing these groups to accept some limits or to go through new adjustments.
